Comelec chair can grant gun ban exemptions
MANILA, Philippines — By a split 4-3 vote, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gave Election Chair Saidamen Pangarungan the power to solely grant gun ban exemptions and to place so-called areas of concern under Comelec control.
In a resolution dated April 6 but announced on Monday, the poll body also amended its rules on the election gun ban passed last November.
The poll body automatically exempted from the ban senior government officials and two security aides each, and officers of the National Bureau of Investigation and the Comelec.
