Isko: It’s still an uphill climb
MANILA, Philippines — Tens of thousands of supporters of Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso flocked to his concert rally in his home city on Sunday night in a show of force that seemed intended to counter his weak poll numbers less than a month before the elections.
But the Aksyon Demokratiko standard-bearer admitted on stage during the “Isigaw Mo, Isko!” event that winning the presidency remained an uphill climb against opponents with more money, power and influence.
“We’re at a huge disadvantage. My opponents are ‘special children’ with fortunate lives. This fight is so hard, we are too disadvantaged,” Domagoso said in Filipino.
‘I have nothing to lose’
“So we need to multiply. Will you multiply? I have nothing to lose. I have long had nothing to my name. But I’m running scared, because many are still confused, being fooled, being tricked. It’s time to stop being silent. We need to convince them to switch sides,” he said.
For the first time, the 47-year-old Domagoso presented his immediate family, wife Diana Lynn and four of his five children, including his actor son Joaquin, on stage.
