CBCP urges gov’t to review oil deregulation law

MANILA, Philippines—The president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines on Thursday called on the government to review the Oil Deregulation Law as oil prices continue to rise.

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma said that the law should be reviewed to help the public brace for the continued increases in prices of oil products.

“We are all affected by the rise in gas prices. For me, I have long ago called for a review of the oil deregulation law,” Palma told reporters.

“We’re hoping that given the responsibility, these concerned government agencies would come to the rescue of the public,” he added.

Since January, there have been nine rounds of oil price increases in the country due to increasing oil prices in the world market.
