‘Agaton’ displaces over 86,000 families in Visayas, Mindanao — NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Agaton has displaced over  86,000 families and left one person dead as of Monday morning, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Based on NDRRMC’s latest data, 86,515 families or 136,390 individuals in 201 barangays were displaced by the weather disturbance.

A total of 3,717 families or 13,049 individuals are still taking shelter in 71 evacuation sites, while  25,485 other families are staying with their relatives or friends.

The displaced individuals are from Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Meanwhile, one person was reported dead, but is still subject to validation.

Two other individuals were injured while another one was reported missing.

In addition,  52 houses were damaged in Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga.

Damages to agriculture was pegged at P874,000 in the Soccsksargen and BARMM regions.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, 11 areas are under Signal No. 1 due to ‘Agaton’.
