MANILA, Philippines — The petitioners of the remaining disqualification case against presidential bet Ferdinand Marcos Jr. have asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) anew to decide on the case as there is only a month left before the May 9 polls.
Pudno Nga Ilokano, a group of martial law activists from Marcos’ home province of Ilocos Norte, on Friday filed an “extremely urgent” second motion for the poll body’s Second Division to resolve the petition to block the candidacy of Marcos over his tax offense conviction.
In its seven-page motion, the group argued that there is no reason to “further delay” the case resolution as two of the three original members of the Second Division have already received all necessary documents for the case.
The petition also said that “utmost importance” should be given on the case and that undue delay puts the integrity and competence of the Comelec into question.
“It is unfair to the petitioners, respondent and the voting public, and a violation of the ‘due process’ clause that a ruling on a matter that directly impacts on who could legally occupy an office, especially the highest position in the government, is unduly delayed,” the petition read.
