Elderly couple, grandson killed in pre-dawn fire that hit home
MANILA, Philippines — An elderly couple and their teenage grandson were killed, while two others were injured in a pre-dawn fire that hit their home in Mandaluyong City Thursday, police said.
Chief Inspector Nahum Sarosa of the city fire station identified the casualties as Eduardo Yangco Sr., 73, NormaYangco, 77, and Lester, 18.
He said they were “charred beyond recognition” in the fire that razed their two-story home along Basilica Street in Barangay (village) Namayan, Mandaluyong City.
The fire started at 12:47 a.m. and reached second alarm before it was put out at 1:24 a.m.. he said.
Lester’s parents—Milagros and Eduardo Yangco Jr. — were rushed to the Mandaluyong Medical Center after sustaining second-degree burns, he said.
Initial investigation showed that the fire may have started on the second floor of the house, Sarosa said.
