ILIGAN CITY—The provincial disaster risk reduction and management office (PDRRMO) of Lanao del Norte has ordered its officials and personnel to be on alert for dire effects of sustained heavy rains that continue to affect Northern Mindanao.

Aveliza Manzano, PDRRMO chief, said disaster response officials from the province down to the municipal governments are on standby and ready to respond to an emergency situation owing to the inclement weather.

Manzano said they were closely monitoring the hinterland towns of Tangcal and Magsaysay that are prone to landslides.

Heavy rainfall triggered a landslide Wednesday noon in the village of Santa Elena in Iligan City.

Elmer Dailo, Santa Elena village chief said the loosened soil covered a road, but no houses were damaged nor any resident injured.

The City Engineer’s Office deployed personnel and heavy equipment to clear the debris and one lane of the road was already passable by the afternoon.

Meanwhile, District Engineer Alykhan U. Ali of the Department of Public Works and Highways deployed teams of maintenance personnel, with heavy equipment, to strategic places which are near areas prone to flood and landslides in Iligan City and Lanao del Norte in order to allow quick response.
