Dumaguete OKs P3.8M as Sendong aid

THE Dumaguete City Disaster Advisory Council has approved more than P3.8 million in financial assistance for the victims of Typhoon Sendong.

Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said in a disaster council meeting the budget will come from the financial contribution of local government units (LGUs), private individuals and others.

Of the said amount, P1.940 million will be allocated to the 388 families whose houses were totally damaged. Each family will receive P5,000. The remaining P1.845 million will be divided among the 738 households whose houses were partially damaged. Each household will receive P2,500. Ten thousand pesos will be given to seven families who had a family member that died during the typhoon.

The DSWD, however, will have to wait for the resolution by the council for the immediate release of the funding assistance, said City Social Welfare Officer Marina Mendoza.

The city government has collected around P6 million in cash and check donations intended for families affected by Sendong, said Mayor Sagabarria.

The mayor also informed the council that the National Housing Authority has already approved the 1,000 houses to be built in barangays Banilad and Bajumpandan. The Gawad Kalinga in the barangays will also build 250 houses for the typhoon victims in the city.
