British national wanted for child abuse nabbed in Puerto Princesa City

CITY OF CALAPAN––Police on Wednesday arrested a British national wanted for child abuse in Puerto Princesa City in Palawan province, a report from the Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan (Mimaropa) police said Thursday.

Derek John Ambridge, 78, who is on the list of Puerto Princesa City’s most-wanted persons, was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. by local police and personnel from Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Palawan in Barangay Santa Monica.

Ambridge was arrested based on a warrant of arrest dated Sept. 20, 2021, issued by the Regional Trial Court, Branch 47, 4th Judicial Region in Puerto Princesa City.

He was charged with two counts of violation of Section 5 of Republic Act No. 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act) with a recommended bail amounting to P200,000 each.

As of Thursday morning, the arrested accused is under the custody of the Puerto Princesa City police and will be turned over to the issuing court soon.

The Regional Investigative and Detection Management Division reported that from Jan. 1 to April 6, Mimaropa police had 666 arrests of wanted persons in the region.
