4 dead in Quezon road mishaps

LUCENA CITY––Four motorists died in three separate road accidents Wednesday in Quezon province, the police reported Thursday, April 7.

The Tiaong town police reported that a jeepney driven by Onofre Murphy, 69, at 11:50 p.m. accidentally hit the concrete barrier on the roadside of the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Lalig. The vehicle then swerved and hit an oncoming truck driven by Danillo Montero.

Murphy and his five passengers suffered injuries and were taken to the nearest hospital. But Murphy and one of his passengers, Arnold Tolentino, died on the way.

The four other passengers and Montero, who also had injuries, were confined and undergoing treatment.

In Lucena City, the police reported that car driver Ropert Baladad, 31, at 8 a.m., hit the rear part of a passenger bus driven by Marjun Alterado at the diversion road in Barangay Silangang Mayao.

The car fell on its side, but an oncoming van driven by Edilberto Pornasdoro bumped it.

Baladad died on the way to the Quezon Medical Center in the city center.

Alterado and Pornasdoro remained under police custody.

In Lopez town, motorcycle rider Robert Relucio, 53, suddenly lost control of his vehicle around 4 a.m. while traveling along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Magsaysay.

The wayward motorcycle skidded, Relucio was thrown off, landed on the pavement, and suffered grave injuries.

He was taken to the Magsaysay Memorial District Hospital in the town center but died while undergoing treatment.
