MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is scheduled to meet with representatives from the Civil Service Commission (CSC) next week to discuss the proposed “daylight saving time” for government employees in Metro Manila, MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said Friday.

“Tuloy-tuloy naman po ang ating konsultasyon. Makikipagpulong po tayo sa Civil Service [Commission] next week,” Artes said in an interview on ABS-CBN News’ Teleradyo.

In a Cabinet briefing on Tuesday, Artes said that the MMDA is proposing the implementation of “daylight saving time” for government offices located in Metro Manila to lessen the volume of traffic during rush hours.

“Ang isa sa iminumungkahi namin para lamang po sa mga kawani ng gobyerno ay ‘yung daylight saving time kung saan mas aagahan po yung pasok at mas maaga po na uuwi ang ating mga empleyado,” said Artes.

(One of our recommendations for government employees is daylight saving time, where they will report for work earlier and go home earlier.)

“Ang pinopropose po namin ay between 7 am to 4 pm po ang pasok ng mga kawani ng gobyerno at maging start ng pagpo-process ng transactions,” he added.

(We propose that government employees work from 7 am to 4 pm. It will be the same for the processing of transactions.)

Artes noted that the daylight saving time was previously implemented in the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

“Mukhang epektibo naman po in so far as they are concerned. So titingnan po natin ang model ng DPWH at isusulong po natin ‘yan lalo na sa mga LGUs (local government units) dito sa Kamaynilaan,” he said.

(It looked effective as far as they are concerned. We will look at the model of the DPWH and we will push for it especially in LGUs in Metro Manila.) RELATED STORIES: CSC drafting policies to make ‘flexi work’ permanent in gov’t agencies
