MANILA, Philippines — The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has directed public telecommunication entities to set up emergency preparations in areas affected by the recent activity of the Taal Volcano.
In a memorandum signed by NTC Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba dated March 28, the agency directed public telecommunication entities to “preposition mobile cellsites in the affected areas and these should be made ready for deployment anytime.”
The NTC also directed public telecommunication entities to “ensure that there are a sufficient number of technical and support personnel and standby generators with extra fuel, tools and spare equipment in the areas affected by the recent volcanic activity of Taal Volcano.”
“Further, you are directed to deploy Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging Stations in evacuation sites identified by the Provincial Government of Batangas. You are also reminded to coordinate with the LGUs and continue to observe strict health protocols to avoid transmission of coronavirus disease (COVID-19),” the NTC further said.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) raised on Saturday the Alert Level 3 over Taal Volcano after it recorded a series of short phreatomagmatic bursts.
