MANILA, Philippines — The Nacionalista Party’s endorsement of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio brings the tandem closer to securing the top two highest posts in the country, the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) said.
Lakas-CMD is the party of Duterte-Caprio.
The Nacionalista Party (NP), led by former senate president Manny Villar, recently announced its support for the Marcos-Duterte tandem for president and vice president, respectively.
“The support of one of the country’s biggest and oldest political parties will certainly make a difference as we work hard to consolidate forces and support to the UniTeam tandem in this crucial period of the campaign,” Lakas-CMD President Martin Romualdez said in a statement Tuesday, adding that they “greatly value” the Nacionalista Party’s endorsement.
“The endorsement of the Villar-led party inches Marcos and Duterte further closer towards the post that they are seeking,” Romualdez, also the House majority leader, further said.
The Nacionalista Party earlier explained that the tandem’s push for unity “is crucial in binding our country together and inspiring our people as we rebuild not only from the pandemic but also from political chasm that divide us.”
Aside from the Nacionalista Party, the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) is also backing the Marcos-Duterte tandem.
