Over 1,000 families still in evacuation centers as Taal Volcano rumbles — PNP

MANILA, Philippines — At least 1,228 families or 4,143 individuals are still taking shelter in evacuation centers as Alert Level 3 is still in effect over Taal Volcano, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported on Monday.

Based on the situation report released by the PNP’s Public Information Office, eight barangays in Batangas have been evacuated as of Monday, namely Barangays Banyaga and Bilibinwang in Agoncillo; Buso-Buso, Gulod, and Bugaan East in Laurel; Palsara in Balete; Quilling in Talisay and Don Juan in Cuenca.

Most of the evacuees, according to PNP, are from Agoncillo and Laurel, which also hosts nine and eight evacuation centers, respectively.

PNP has also deployed over 100 police officers to help maintain peace and order in the area. 

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Saturday raised the alert level over Taal Volcano from 2 to 3 following a phreatomagmatic eruption at the main crater.
