LUCENA CITY – Active COVID-19 cases in Quezon dropped to six with 36 of the 41 municipalities in the province reporting zero cases, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) reported on Sunday, March 27.
The five towns that still have COVID-19 patients are Candelaria with two cases and one each in the municipalities of Gumaca, Mauban, Real, and San Antonio, according to the IPHO in its 5 p.m. bulletin.
Those who were previously infected in 34 towns and the cities of Lucena and Tayabas have either recovered or died, the report said.
Gov. Danilo Suarez urged residents to remain vigilant in the battle against COVID-19.
“Let us all maintain discipline by observing all safety protocols to prevent the resurgence of new cases,” he said.
Suarez appealed to residents to continue practicing basic health protocols, like wearing face masks and keeping a one-meter distance from the next person in public places.
On Dec. 27 last year, the number of active cases in the province had dropped to nine, but soared anew to 1,805 last January 23, 2022.
The highest single-day tally of active cases was recorded on Sept. 21 last year, with 2,570 cases during the height of the more infectious Delta variant.
Lucena, the capital city of Quezon and classified as a highly urbanized city, is under the most relaxed Alert Level 1 while the rest of the province will remain under Alert Level 2 until March 31.
As of Sunday, Quezon has recorded 32,835 COVID-19 cases, 31,269 recoveries, and 1,560 deaths.
