MANILA, Philippines — Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte on Sunday said there are now “signs” that his father, President Rodrigo Duterte, will be endorsing the presidential bid of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

“Hindi pa natin alam [kung i-eendorse], but there are signs na. Nakita na natin [ang] PDP-Laban, nag-release na ng statement na they’re supporting BBM (Bongbong Marcos) so I hope the President will express his support to BBM,” Baste told reporters after the proclamation rally of local candidates in Polomolok, South Cotabato.

(“We don’t know yet, but there are signs already. We have already seen [the] PDP-Laban, have already released a statement that they’re supporting BBM so I hope the President will express his support to BBM.)

The PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi and backed by the President himself, earlier announced its support for the presidential bid of Marcos Jr. on Tuesday.

Apart from the party’s endorsement, Duterte and Marcos Jr. also met on Sunday, Mar. 20.

Duterte’s son added that he prefers that the President endorses Marcos Jr., adding that the former senator is leading in voter preference surveys conducted in Davao.

“As far as I know sa Davao mataas talaga siya. More than 80 percent, 85 percent. We’re trying to push for 90,” said Baste Duterte.

(As far as I know in Davao he really ranked high. More than 80 percent, 85 percent. We’re trying to push for 90.)

Marcos Jr’s running mate in the coming elections is Baste’s sister, Davao Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

A UniTeam rally at the open field of the South Cotabato Sports Complex in Koronadal City is scheduled late Sunday afternoon.
