The Gualandi Volunteers Services Programme (GVSP) together with the Jaycees International (JCI) Mactan Channel chapter joined forces to stage the “Run to Lead, Run for a Cause” on March 11 starting at Plaza Independencia.
The running event was officially launched yesterday at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel Cebu.
It aims to support GVSP’s “Break the silence” project—a deaf child sexual abuse prevention program—and Read to lead program Advocacy for love of reading and leadership of JCI-Mactan Channel.
GVSP started its program last year. One of its biggest project was when it helped the family of a 17-year-old rape victim in Lapu-Lapu City.
GVSP monitored the case and aided the victim’s family. The primary suspects are now imprisoned but the mastermind is still at large.
GVSP will also visit special education centers in Cebu to conduct an awareness campaign to prevent sexual abuse on deaf people.
JCI Mactan Channel, on the other hand, will distribute books to selected elementary schools in Cebu.
Meanwhile, one of the country’s most popular personality in running, coach Rio Dela Cruz, will join the race, which will feature 3-kilometer, 6k and 12k categories.
Registration fee is pegged at P300 for regular runners and P250 for students. A 20-percent discount will also be given to persons with disabilities (PWD) and senior citizens.
One can register at the RUNNR at the Ayala Center Cebu, Body Fitness Gym in Minglanilla and Banana Baby at the Banilad Town Center.
Almost a thousand runners have already enlisted to join the race after the registration opened last Feb. 14.
A football tournament for a cause is also set this coming April 14 and 15 at the San Roque Football field in Mandaue organized by the JCI-Mactan Channel.
