Comelec: 845 candidates running unopposed for May 9 polls

A total of 845 candidates are running unopposed for the upcoming May 9 elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Thursday.

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 845 candidates are running unopposed for the upcoming May 9 elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Thursday.

According to the data from Comelec, there are a total of 18,023 local and national positions up for grabs in the upcoming polls.

Out of the 253 congressional seats, 39 are unopposed while there are nine unopposed bets gunning for the provincial governor post.

Meanwhile, 11 out of 81 provincial governor seats and 45 out of 782 seats for Sangguniang Panlalawigan are uncontested.

A total of 203 out of 1,634 candidates  running for city or municipal mayoralty is running unopposed while 254 of those running for vice mayor are uncontested.

Out of the 13,558 seats for councilors, 284 are uncontested.

The campaign period for local candidates is set to start on Friday, March 25.

The campaign for national candidates started on Feb. 8.
