LEGAZPI CITY––Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal announced on Wednesday, March 23, that Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Epimaco Densing and the Bicol Interagency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (BIATF) has approved the request of the city government to allow the holding of the Lenten procession set on Good Friday (April 15) and the Resurrection on Easter Sunday (April 17).
Rosal said the DILG and the BIATF has allowed the Lenten procession in this city on condition that the organizers and the public strictly observe the minimum public health standards such as wearing of face masks, maintaining the required physical distancing, and limiting the people that would assist in manning the carriage of the life-size images depicting the passion of Jesus Christ.
Bishop Joel Baylon of the Diocese of Legazpi recently gave a green light for all parishes to hold Lenten processions in their respective areas provided they have secured permits from their local government units.
In Legazpi’s Albay District 53, carriages carrying life-size images of the passion of Christ are paraded in major streets while thousands of people join the processions.
