MANILA, Philippines — There’s no preferential treatment in Pasig for any candidate,  Mayor Vico Sotto said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

“As I’ve said before, Pasig is open for campaign activities of all candidates, national and local,” said Sotto in a Facebook post.

Sotto made the post after learning about a claim circulating online that he refused to give permits.

“There are stories that  I don’t give permits, but actually there are. (It seems that the story did NOT come from a national [source] but only locally. I hope it’s just an honest mistake.),” Sotto said in Filipino,

According to Sotto, the Pasig administrator’s approval of permits is automatic “as long as the venue is allowed and it is properly coordinated for safety/security reasons.”

“This is the right of the candidates and it is also good for Pasig citizens to see and hear them,” he said.

Sotto issued a statement with a photo of a letter from the city administrator showing that Pasig released a permit for the campaign rally of former Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
