MANILA, Philippines — Forty-eight local government units (LGUs) must explain why their distribution of financial assistance to survivors of Typhoon Odette is slow, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said.
During President Rodrigo Duterte’s taped address to the nation aired Tuesday, Año said that they have issued show cause orders to 48 LGUs in six regions.
“At ang ginawa po rin natin sa mga LGUs na medyo mabagal ang pagbibigay ng ayuda ay pinadalhan natin ng show cause orders. Ito po ay umaabot sa 48 LGUs,” he told the president.
(What we have done to the LGUs that are slow in giving aid is we have sent them show-cause orders. It was given to 48 LGUs.)
Three of the LGUs are in Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), 16 are in Western Visayas, 13 are in Central Visayas, and 16 are in Eastern Visayas.
LGUs in Northern Mindanao and Caraga, which are also conducting the distribution, have not received any show cause orders.
In December last year, Duterte ordered the distribution of P1,000 to each Odette survivor but not more than P5,000 per family.

A total of P4.8 billion was allotted for the financial assistance. From the total, P4.15 billion has been distributed to around four million individuals.
