MANILA, Philippines—Malacañang on Tuesday said it is “confident” that military officers will not be influenced by retired generals reportedly recruiting junior officers to oust President Benigno Aquino III, a report from Radyo Inquirer 990AM said.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte was quoted as saying the Palace believes that the Armed Forces of the Philippines remains to be a professional organization that observes the chain of command.
The information on the ouster plot was revealed Monday by jailed former coup leader Senator Antonio Trillianes IV. He said former ranking military men are enlisting soldiers in active service to overthrow President Aquino.
Valte said the Palace believes the plot is unlikely to push through because of the recent implementation of military reforms that includes acquisition of new weapons for ground forces, increase in combat pay and housing for soldiers.
