MANILA, Philippines — “Choose who is the best, who we think will be the most effective,” Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto advised his city’s voters during the flag raising at city hall on Monday.
“What we want for Pasig is for everyone to be given an opportunity. That what we fought for — the freedom of everyone to listen to all the candidates,” Sotto said, speaking mostly in Filipino. “We want to be open to everyone. Then we will choose who is the best, who we think will be the most effective.”
“Let’s always just remember the rules and guidelines of Comelec [Commission on Elections] and let’s abide by it,” Sotto said.
“We need to work together to be sure that everything goes smoothly until the elections,” he added.
The national and local elections are set for May 9.
Shifting to another issue, Sotto said he had nothing to say about the cyberlibel complaint filed against him by Vice Mayor Iyo Caruncho Bernardo, who is also his opponent in the mayoralty race in the coming local elections.
Regarding his “haha” reaction, which trended across several social media platforms, in an article, Sotto just said: “It is what is.”
