LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Philippines — The police office in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) region has launched the “Ligtas SumVac 2022” campaign to secure vacationers who will be visiting tourist drawers in the region this summer.
A total of 1,459 police officers — 866 to be deployed in areas of convergence, 249 in transportation terminals, 244 in tourist destinations, 100 in road constructions — are ready to be posted for SumVac 2022, said Police Brig. Gen. Antonio Yarra, director of the Calabarzon Police Regional Office, in a statement on Saturday.
The police forces will be augmented by at least 2,706 civilian volunteers.
Calabarzon police are anticipating the influx of local and foreign tourists following the easing up of quarantine restrictions brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Yarra said all police units in the region were directed to strictly maintain the minimum public health standards to prevent the resurgence of new infections from the dreaded coronavirus.
He also urged the public to stay vigilant and encouraged them to report to the nearest police stations or any law enforcement agencies any suspicious activities in their area.
Safety tips and hotline numbers will be posted on the Facebook pages of police stations and the regional police “to inform the public on the do’s and don’ts during traveling, while driving, when leaving their houses, and be aware of whom to call whenever they need assistance.”
The Ligtas SumVac 2022 campaign will also cover the election security operations for the coming national and local polls on May 9, he added.
