Jeepney dispatcher shot dead at Commonwealth Market

MANILA, Philippines—A jeepney dispatcher was shot dead by an unidentified assailant inside a market in Quezon City, a report from Radyo Inquirer 990AM said Tuesday.

The report said victim Rafael Cayrel, 33, a resident of Building 16, MRV Compound in Commonwealth, Quezon City, was shot by a still unidentified suspect three times at the back of his head while calling for passengers at the Commonwealth Market around 8 a.m.

It said the suspect was standing 5’2” in height and was wearing white shirt and jeans.

Tessie Cayrel, the victim’s mother, was quoted as saying that his son may have been killed in connection with illegal drugs, as Rafael was an ex-drug convict but was released from prison five years ago.

Tessie said a man came to their house the other day looking for his son, but didn’t find Rafael.

Three empty shells from a caliber .45 pistol were recovered from the crime scene, case investigator, Police Officer 3 Vicven Padua said.
