Gordon, labor leader Labog now part of 1Sambayan’s Senate slate
MANILA, Philippines — Reelectionist Senator Richard Gordon and labor leader Elmer Labog have made it to the 1Sambayan’s senatorial candidates for the 2022 elections.
During a media forum marking the election coalition’s first anniversary on Friday, one of 1Sambayan’s convenors, lawyer Howard Calleja, pushed for Gordon’s reelection.
Calleja also included Labog’s name as among the coalition’s candidates who are expected to advocate for the welfare of workers if elected in the Senate.
“Ako po ay nagpapasalamat sa naging desisyon ng executive body ng 1Sambayan sa aking inclusion at pagi-endorso bilang isa sa mga kandidatong senador sa ilalim ng 1Sambayan,” Labog said in a video message shown during Friday’s forum.
(I am thankful for the decision of the executive body of 1Sambayan to include and endorse me as one of its senatorial candidates under 1Sambayan’s slate.)

“It is so important that we get our people involved and, today, I see a phenomenon happening when young people feel that they are no longer excluded that they now have a voice that can provide change for our country,” the senator added.
Gordon and Labog will join eight other senatorial candidates earlier announced as 1Sambayan’s Senate bets.
These are former Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat, Bayan Muna chairperson and progressive lawyer Neri Colmenares, human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, Senators Risa Hontiveros and Leila de Lima, author Alex Lacson, labor leader Sonny Matula, and former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
