You can’t cook, eat unity — Isko Moreno

MANILA, Philippines — Filipinos cannot eat “unity,” presidential candidate and Manila mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” stressed in a campaign sorties in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Thursday. 

“Maganda ang pagkakaisa. I do believe in pagkakaisa. Pero ang salitang pagkakaisa, hindi makakaresolba ng gutom ng tao,” Moreno said.

(Unity is good, I do believe in unity. But the word “unity” could not resolve the hunger of people.)

“Kapag wala nang maisaing ang tao, hindi mo kayang isaing ang pagkakaisa. ‘Pag wala nang ulam ang tao, hindi mo mai-uulam ang pagkakaisa,” he added.

(When people have no rice to cook, they can not cook “unity.” If they don’t have food, they cannot feed on unity.)

The Manila mayor also slammed candidates who have refuse to attend debates and interviews.

“Kapag hindi humarap ang aplikante, hindi ko iboboto, bilang botante,” Moreno said.

(If an applicant does not show up, I will not vote for him.)

“Debate is just a  form or an outlet wherein para makilala ka ng tao ng lubos, na medyo wala ka sa comfort zone mo,” he said.

(A debate is a just form or an outlet wherein people can know you better, because you are not in your comfort zone,)

“Because in a debate or an interview like this, I don’t know what you’re going to  ask me but I’m just trying to be myself. Gusto ko yung ako, kung sino ako, kung paano ako bilang tao. So sa akin,  I think, mahalaga   iyon,” he added.

(I want to present the real me, who I am. So for me, I think that is important.)
