Oslob road mishap

AN 86-YEAR-OLD widow was killed when a bus hit her as she was crossing the highway in barangay Daanlungsod, Oslob, south Cebu.

Teofila Puson was brought by relatives to the Oslob District Hospital but she did not make it alive.

The Ceres bus was heading to Samboan town  when the accident occurred 5 p.m. Sunday.

The driver, Roberto Daugdaug, told police the old woman was crossing the road and stopped at the center, seeming to  hesitate.   He said he tried to avoid the woman but she stepped backward.

“Nibalik man siya (She went back),” said  PO1 Eusemar Oling of Oslob police station.

The driver surrendered and is now detained at the Santander police station, hoping to reach an amicable settlement with the victim’s family. /correspondent RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL

Cebu city robberies

POLICE arrested six persons, including two minors, in connection with separate  robberies in Cebu City.

Two victims came forward and identified them in separate holdups.

Mark Joseph Abellanosa, 18, of Bulacao; Mario Camomot, 27, of Lahug; Nelgen Dacalos, 27, of Pardo; Ernesto Andog, 24; and two minors were arrested on board a multicab.  They  were detained at the Cebu City Police Office pending the filing of charges.

Dacalos, a former call center agent, has a pending case for frustrated murder and is out on bail.

Camomot was accused of holding up a woman at gunpoint outside the Redemptorist church last Sunday.    Tina Rodriguez of barangay Camputhaw  said she lost her cellular phone and wallet with P3,000 cash.

The six suspects said they were victims of mistaken identity. Police recovered a laptop, six cellular phones, several bags and a motorcycle from them.

A  15-year-old girl who was arrested in the group said she was  just hanging out with friends.

Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, CCPO chief, said it was the modus operandi of the robbers to quickly pass the stolen loot to cohorts to confuse  victims.

He urged other theft victims to come to the police station to identify the suspects./correspondent chitio aragon

Suicide in argao

A 24-year-old woman was found hanging dead in barangay Lamacan, Argao, south Cebu, yesterday.

Clarissa Alcazar was found by her mother. A nylon rope was tied around her neck and suspended to the wall.

Neighbors tried to revive her but to no avail. Police said  Alcazar’s relatives believe she killed herself over financial problems.

Clarissa’s mother went to the house at 1:30 p.m. to check on her grandchildren after hearing Clarissa’s 3-month-old baby  crying.

There was no sign of foul play but police said the body was brought  the Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes for autopsy./CORRESPONDENT RHEA RUTH ROSELL

Drowning

The body of  57-year-old Eduardo Gulpan  was found floating  off the shore of  Daanbantayan town, north Cebu,  last Sunday.

Gulpan, who was diagnosed with a mental illness years ago, was last seen walking in the area 10 p.m. the day before.

Police said they suspect Gulpan drowned.  He had  wounds in his knees and mouth.
