MANILA, Philippines — The PDP-Laban has added three-term Senator Loren Legarda to their list of senatorial bets for the coming May 2022 elections.

PDP-Laban said in a statement Monday that the Antique Lone District representative championed sustainable and green development.

They added that she has worked on enacting laws on environmental governance like the Clean Air Act, the Solid Waste Management Act, the Climate Change Act, and the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act.

The ruling party faction is assured that former senator will continue to champion women and children’s rights and the protection of the indigenous communities and their cultures once re-elected.

“Senator Legarda represents advocacies that form part of PP Laban’s 11- Point Agenda. She has also pledged to support continuity to the programs incubated under the Duterte administration that have greatly benefitted the people,” PDP-Laban Secretary-General Melvin Matibag said.

The PDP-Laban previously announced their seven senatorial bets, including the former Cabinet secretaries Greco Belgica, Salvador Panelo, and John Castriciones, former Department of Energy (DOE) undersecretary Astra Pimentel, House Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta, broadcaster Rey Langit and actor Robin Padilla.

Last month, President Rodrigo Duterte, PDP-Laban Party Chairman, gave his endorsement and full support to Legarda’s senatorial comeback, saying that the Antique Congresswoman deserves to be back in the senate.

Legarda has now widened her lead on the latest 2022 election surveys.
