Baguio City’s Magalong supports JV Ejercito’s bid for a Senate comeback
Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong on Tuesday expressed his support for former Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, who is currently running for a second term in the Senate.
“We’re supporting Senator JV. I have been hearing a lot of good feedback, comments from his fellow senators. Noong nag-aattend ako ng Senate hearings, every time they mention JV, laging positive,” he said.
Magalong, who currently heads a city of more than 370,000 residents, lauded Ejercito for his hard work, humility, competence, and excellent leadership.
“So, these are the kind of people that we want in the Senate. And we need genuine leaders in the Senate and that’s Senator JV,” Magalong said.
Article continues after this advertisementOther local chief executives, such as Davao City Mayor and presidential bet Sara Duterte-Carpio, Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc, Tarlac Gov. Susan Yap, and Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno, have recently expressed their praise and support for Ejercito.
Article continues after this advertisementEjercito was himself a former local chief executive as he served as mayor of San Juan City from 2001- 2010. San Juan obtained its cityhood during Ejercito’s term.
Prior to his election as senator in 2013, Ejercito was a representative of San Juan City’s lone legislative district for one term. As a senator, he authored and sponsored a total of 161 bills and resolutions.
As principal sponsor, he helped ensure the passage of the Universal Healthcare Law and Department of Urban Development and Human Settlements Law in the Senate.
He also authored the Domestic Workers Act of 2012, Local Housing Boards Act, Participatory Governance Through CSOs Empowerment Act of 2011, Mercury Exposure Information Act of 2011, and Cadastral Survey Act of 2012.
