Weaving training for scavengers held

/ 08:09 AM March 06, 2012

THE two-month weaving training program for Umapad dumpsite scavengers ended with the participants completing their personal commitment to weave panels for their future homes.

The training was spearheaded by Dedon, in partnership with Dekeyser and Friends and JPIC (Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation), at its manufacturing plant in Mandaue.

The scavengers, composing the first batch of trainees, are beneficiaries of Dedon’s housing project in Compostela town in northern Cebu.

Participants learned to weave their own panels that are needed to build their own houses. The training was also in line with Dedon’s corporate social responsibility initiative to provide alternative livelihood to the beneficiaries to augment their income through weaving.
