Ocampo, Labao KO rivals in SGG card

Jose Ocampo annexed the interim WBO Asia-Pacific junior lightweight title on Sunday with a 4th round technical knockout (TKO) win over Weng Haya at the Cebu Coliseum.

Ocampo knocked Haya down twice in the third canto which the latter barely survived. The end came at the 2.26 mark of the fourth when Ocampo downed Haya again  prompting the referee to stop the fight.

Meanwhile, Rey Labao claimed the Philippine lightweight title with a spectacular first round TKO win over Jay Solmiano.

Labao downed Solmiano with a powerful left midway through the opening round. Solmiano managed to get up but was on wobbly legs prompting the referee to stop the fight at the 2:37 mark.

FEATURED STORIES

In the undercard, a bloodied Ciso ‘Kid Terrible’ Morales won by 4th round TKO over Joash Apericio. An accidental head butt in the third inflicted a cut on Morales’ forehead and a point was deducted from Apericio. In the 4th, Morales sent Apericio down with a low blow that was ruled accidental. Apericio was given five minutes to continue but he was unable to get up on time awarding Morales the win.

OTHER WINNERS

Virgilio ‘Maton’ Silvano cornered Roque Lauro and landed unanswered blows to the head in the 3rd round prompting the referee to end the bout at the 1:53 mark; Jack ‘Golden Boy’ Tepora won by first round TKO against John Edu Torbiso in his pro debut.

Tepora is a former ABAP National amateur boxing gold medallist and one of the recipients of a citation during the Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC) Awards last Saturday.

Other winners:  Jessie Cris Rosales who knocked out Elmer Colve just 39 seconds into the first; Rennel Fletchero who won by majority decision over Marlo Pasigna after six rounds and Jaspher Buhat who beat Jovan Munoz by majority decision in the first bout of the evening.

The 13th edition of “The Next Prospects” card was offered ‘free to the public’ as a thanksgiving offering of Sammy Gello-ani’s SGG Promotions for the victory and safe return of Team Casimero.
