TACLOBAN CITY—No new COVID case has been reported in Eastern Visayas on Monday (March 14), according to the Department of Health (DOH).
The region currently has 69 active cases.
The last time the region had zero COVID case was Dec. 18, 2021.
Jelyn Lopez Malibago, DOH regional information officer, said health officials were hoping the region would be placed on Alert Level 1, the lowest, as COVID cases declined.
“We really hope that this will continue and all parts of Eastern Visayas will be placed under Alert Level 1 for the remaining period of the month,” she said.
The Inter-Agency Task Force placed much of Eastern Visayas on Alert Level 2 from March 1 to 15, except for the province of Biliran which was on Alert Level 1.
Malibago admitted that during the March 10 to 12 national vaccination campaign, the DOH managed to reach only 52 percent of its target to vaccinate at least 82,000 individuals.
Only 43,242 had been given COVID shots.
“The reason for this was due to bad weather that the entire region experienced in that period which even resulted in landslides in some areas,” she said.
Malibago said that the DOH will continue its vaccination drive in the region.
Out of the 3.18 million target, only 66.4 percent was considered as fully vaccinated.
Since the pandemic started two years ago, the region has reported 62,050 COVID-19 cases.
