PH logged 4,131 COVID-19 infections in second week of March

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday said it registered a total of 4,131 new cases from March 7 to March 13.

According to DOH, this translated to an average of 590 new cases per day — and is 35 percent lower than the average cases logged on Feb. 28 to March 6 which was at 899.

Meanwhile, total additional deaths verified in the same period were at 519, of which 115 occurred in March while the rest were backlogs from previous months.

Healthcare utilization rate also decreased to 17.2 percent (from 18.4 percent) in non-ICU beds, and 19.6 percent (from 25.7 percent) in ICU beds nationwide.

A total of 1,006 individuals, on the other hand, suffered or continue to suffer severe and critical infections.

Fully-vaccinated individuals are now at 64,540,840 (71.71 percent of target population) with 849,950 additional individuals vaccinated in the past week.

Individuals with booster shots totaled up to 11,160,537 with 606,444 additional individuals in the same period.

This is the DOH’s second weekly release of COVID-19 data after transitioning from a daily type of release on March 1.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said that this is meant to boost the confidence of the public under the new normal.
