DoH says food products from Japan safe
MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Health on Friday assured the public that food products manufactured in Japan remain safe and that continuous monitoring of radiation levels was being undertaken by the Food and Drug Authority.
At a press conference, Health Secretary Enrique Ona said that the FDA conducted tests on Japanese food products, particularly rice, noodles, chocolates, and biscuits, and “all samples are found to be safe.”
“The FDA will collect samples from supermarkets and wet markets and check on the inventory of imported products from Japan,” Ona said.
He added that the products would have to be checked if they came from the prefecture directly affected by the nuclear crisis.
“As of now, there is no finding of products coming from Japan that is of any danger to our people,” Ona said.
