MANILA, Philippines — Former Public Works chief Mark Villar’s senatorial bid received a boost from the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP).
The TUCP on Monday endorsed Villar and 11 other senatoriables for the May 2022 national elections.
TUCP Spokesperson Alan Tanjusay said Villar is their top pick for senator in the upcoming election.
“Babanggitin ko lang. Number 1 sa mga senatoriable ay si Mark Villar, Ano. Siya yung top na lumabas sa survey,” Tanjusay said.
Tanjusay revealed the senatorial candidates have been chosen based from the results of a survey conducted among the group’s members.
Mark Villar is thankful for the TUCP’s trust and support.
“Nagpapasalamat po tayo sa Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) sa kanilang suporta sa ating kandidatura sa Senado. Ako po ay masaya na patuloy niyo pong sinuportahan ang aking layunin na makapaglingkod pa ating mga kababayan,” Villar said in a statement.
During Villar’s stint as Public Works secretary, over 6.5 million jobs were created through the government’s Build, Build, Build program.
Villar promised to promote the rights and welfare of the country’s workers.
“Akin pong ipagpapatuloy ang magandang nasimulan ng Build Build Build Program upang makapagbigay ng kabuhayan para sa mga manggagawang Pilipino, asahan ninyo na patuloy kong isusulong ang kapakanan at karapatan ng mga manggagawa,” said Villar.
