Girl who saved friend from crash site cited
An 11-year-old girl who risked life and limb to rescue another girl when a fire broke out in their neighborhood following a plane crash has been cited by the Parañaque City government for her courage and bravery.
Rodelyn Molina, a resident of Barangay (village) Don Bosco, received an award from the city council after she braved tongues of fire and endured her own injuries to rescue another girl who was trapped in the area where the plane was burning following the crash. Unfortunately, the girl she went back for died.
The plane plunged into a community of informal settlers in Lower Taiwan, Doña Soledad Extension in Don Bosco, Parañaque, on December 10 last year. More than 10 people, including the pilot and copilot, were killed.
In a resolution released to the media Monday, the Parañaque City Council awarded P50,000 to Molina for her “heroic and unselfish act… in risking her life to save another.”
“Rodelyn’s act is a shining example of uncommon courage and fierce determination to save others even if she comes to harm’s way. We commend her for this selfless act and urge our citizens to develop this quality and come to the aid of fellow citizens in times of great need as in disasters like this one,” Parañaque Mayor Florencio Bernabe, Jr. said in a statement.
