IATF OKs 100% capacity in college, university in-person classes in Alert Level 1 areas
MANILA, Philippines — The government has allowed colleges and universities in areas under Alert Level 1 to hold face-to-face classes with 100% of the classrooms’ capacity, Malacañang said Friday.
This is based on the latest guidelines approved by the IATF under Resolution No. 164, acting deputy presidential spokesperson Kristian Ablan said.
“On classroom capacity, the allowable seating capacity in classrooms of HEIs in areas under Alert Level 1 is at a maximum of 100% capacity,” Ablan said in a Palace briefing, quoting the IATF resolution.
The IATF maintained that only fully vaccinated teachers, non-teaching personnel and students are allowed to participate in in-person classes.
Students who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, meanwhile, will remain under flexible learning modalities, Ablan said.
There will be no restrictions as to the operational capacity of student dormitories as long as the institution secures clearance from their respective local government unit.
The higher education institutions must take the self-assessment checklist as per CHED-DOH Joint Memorandum Circular No. 004-2021, and operate under self re-opening, Ablan said.
Colleges and universities can continue to get technical assistance from their respective LGUs, the local IATF, CHED Regional Offices, and/or Commission on Higher Education Experts Group.
The IATF also granted colleges and universities the discretion to choose which learning modalities should they operationalize, as long as there will be continuity of learning under any flexible learning modality subject to the condition that the institutions may require.
