3 more Catholic lay organizations endorse Robredo’s presidential bid
MANILA, Philippines — Three more Catholic lay organizations have expressed their support for Vice President Leni Robredo’s presidential bid.
The endorsement came from the Lipa Archdiocesan Council of the Laity and the Council of the Laity of Calapan in Oriental Mindoro and the Council of the Laity of the Apostolic Vicariate of Taytay.
The lay council of Lipa said they chose to endorse Robredo because she is “truthful, honest, and just.”
“Robredo embodies these characteristics as can be seen in her several programs and projects for the marginalized communities and the youth,” the lay council said in a letter published on March 7.
The lay council of Calapan in Oriental Mindoro on Wednesday have also announced their endorsement of Robredo and her running mate Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, saying the tandem “can uplift our current situation.”
In Palawan, the lay council of Taytay recently expressed their support for Robredo and Pangilinan and the following 11 senatorial candidates: Teddy Baguilat, Chel Diokno, Sen. Risa Hontiveros, Alex Lacson, Sonny Matulad, former Sen. Antonio Trillanes, Neri Colmenares, Sen. Richard Gordon, Samira Gutoc, and Sen. Joel Villanueva.
In a letter dated February 25 but was only published on Thursday, the organization believes that the said candidates “reflect the values and aspirations, dreams and hopes of the people we want to serve.”
“The type of leaders we elect reflects the type of person we are,” they added.
It can be recalled that several religious organizations endorsed the candidacy of Robredo, like the leadership of the Council of the Laity of the Philippines, the Couples for Christ international council, and more than 500 members of “Pari Madre Misyonero Para Kay Leni.”
