PH logs 592 new COVID-19 infections; active cases down to 47,173

MANILA, Philippines — An additional 592 new infections were logged by the Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday, the second lowest the country recorded this year.

The new cases are only slightly higher than the previous record-low at 580, which was logged on Wednesday, March 9.

Active cases, meanwhile, slightly decreased further to 47,173 in the 3,668,940 confirmed infections. Total recoveries currently number 3,564,509, while deaths sit at 57,258.

This data was released through the COVID-19 tracker on the DOH’s website (which usually updates at night), after the agency stopped its daily COVID-19 report and transitioned into a weekly report.

The first weekly report was released on Monday where a total of 6,297 new infections of COVID-19 were reported from March 1 to 7.

While the DOH had retained the COVID-19 tracker, it will eventually be updated on a weekly basis, said Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire in an earlier statement.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III had said that the transition into a weekly released report is meant to boost the confidence of the public under the new normal.
