MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines logged 580 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, the lowest the country recorded this year and since Dec. 28, 2020, said the Department of Health (DOH).

Active cases, meanwhile, are now down to 47,471 in the 3,669,283 confirmed infections. Total recoveries currently number 3,564,630, while deaths sit at 57,182.

This data is in the COVID-19 tracker on the DOH website.

The DOH has stopped giving a daily COVID-19 report and transitioned into a weekly report — the first one released on Monday.

In its first weekly report, a total of 6,297 new infections of COVID-19 were reported from March 1 to 7.

According to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, the transition into a weekly released report is meant to boost the confidence of the public under the new normal.

While the DOH had retained the COVID-19 tracker on its website (which usually updates every night), the tracker will eventually be updated on a weekly basis, said Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire in an earlier statement.
