PH gets more than 1 million doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines received another shipment of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine – more than 1 million doses – on Wednesday, the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 said.

The delivery is composed of 128,700 Pfizer vaccine doses for 12 years old and above, and 1,056,000 doses of reformulated Pfizer vaccine for minors aged 5 to 11. All in all, 1,184,700 doses of Pfizer’s anti-coronavirus vaccine were delivered to the Philippines on Wednesday night.

The vaccine doses were aboard DHL Express flight LD456, which landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 around 9 p.m.

According to the NTF, the Pfizer shots were procured through a loan from the World Bank.

As of March 7, the country received a total of 232,673,310 doses of various COVID-19 vaccines since shipments started arriving in February 2021.

Based on the latest data from the Department of Health, around 63 million people in the country are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by SARS-CoV-2.

As for the pediatric population, the government said 9.5 million adolescents aged 12 to 17 and 736,880 children aged 5 to 11 have already received their anti-coronavirus shots.

The national government is set to hold its fourth mass vaccination drive from March 10-12, aiming to administer 1.8 million vaccine doses.
