Cebuano Calderon collars another title in ROK class
Cebuano karting prodigy Jette Calderon continued his winning run in the 2011 Petron Karting Series as he once again bagged the crown in the Jr. ROK division in spite of the searing race conditions last Sunday at the Boomland Kart Circuit in Pasay City.
Calderon won two of three races held in his division, including the penultimate final heat, wherein he bested Manila-based rivals Franco Reyes and Vrei-Ar Suba, who finished in second and third place, respectively.
Already a third-year high school student from the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, Calderon led what was a banner victory for the newly formed varsity karting squad of the school.
Calderon’s win last weekend, coupled with his victory during the first leg, has allowed him to take full control of the lead in the standings with a total of 94 points. Suba is a distant second with 78 markers while Matthew Chan is in third place with 60.
He is also in third place in the race for the ROK Overall crown with a total of 135 points, trailing only VJ Suba (171) and Stefano Marcelo (181).
Also grabbing a podium finish during the event was Vince Adrian Rojo, who finished in second place in the Mini ROK division.
Others who garnered impressive finishes were Joseph Rojo, who placed fourth in the KT Experts class, and Sean Velasco, who crossed the finish line in sixth place in the KT Novice category. All the aforementioned racers make up the SHS-AdC varsity karting team.
