BUTUAN CITY – Agusan del Norte 1st District Representative Lawrence Fortun expressed his support for Vice President Leni Robredo, calling her the best choice for president ahead of her two-day campaign visit to six cities in Caraga region.

Robredo is set to visit the cities of Bislig and Tandag in Surigao del Sur and Surigao City on March 8, the international women’s day; before proceeding to Bayugan City in Agusan del Sur, Cabadbaran City in Agusan del Norte, to culminate in grand rally in Butuan City the following day.

“Robredo is the best choice for the presidency not only because we share several advocacies but also because I witnessed first hand how hard she worked; her humility and how modest she was when we worked together during the 16th Congress in the House of Representatives,” said Fortun, recalling the three years from 2013 when Robredo served at the House of Representatives before running for vice president in the 2016 elections.

Fortun said he admired how Robredo used to work the whole day and even in evenings, how prepared she was when she used to go to to meetings and sessions, ready to exchange ideas and debate, when deliberations were required.

“During the height of the Napoles scam, she was with us in our stand to abolish PDAF which was abused by some members of Congress and of the Senate. Robredo also helped us during our investigation into the anomalies in the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Caraga region which led to the filing of cases against about 30 NIA officials,” said Fortun.

The lawmaker cited Robredo’s proposed measures on people participation and empowerment, transparency and accountability, environment and economy all revealed a leader with a firm grasp of the country’s pressing issues and the most important and urgent reforms that need to be instituted.
