Soldier hurt in attack by armed men in Northern Samar

An alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA) has surrendered to a village leader in Las Navas town, Northern Samar.

TACLOBAN CITY––A soldier got wounded after armed men believed to be New People’s Army (NPA) rebels attacked his group in Catubig town, Northern Samar.

Sgt. Gleen Amado, 35, was wounded on his neck and recuperating at the Northern Samar Provincial Hospital in Catarman.

A report from the 20th Infantry Battalion in Las Navas town said the attack happened around 9:30 p.m. while the soldiers were conducting a dialogue with residents of Barangay CM Recto.

As villagers scampered for safety, the soldiers engaged the undetermined number of rebels in a firefight.

No one was hurt among the civilians.

Lt. Col. Joemar Buban, the battalion commander of the 20th Infantry Battalion, condemned the attack.

The rebels were reportedly led by “Ka Estela.”
