Walk rather than drive up to Holy Cross shrine – Mlang
MLANG, Cotabato, Philippines — The municipal government here advises visitors to the town’s popular Shrine of the Holy Cross to consider walking instead of going via their vehicles.
Bernardo Tayong of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office made the appeal after a multicab vehicle flipped over last Tuesday when its brakes malfunctioned while it was going downhill.
The vehicle ended in a grassy area near a rubber plantation. All its eight passengers were injured and rushed to the Mlang District Hospital.
Tayong said visitors can leave their vehicles at the foot of Mount Esperanza and just take a walk up the shrine.
“If your purpose is to exercise, just walk. Anyway, you just need at least 25 minutes to reach the peak,” Tayong said.
