MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines logged 989 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, raising the overall case count to 3,664,905.
This is the third time that cases dropped to less than 1,000 this year.
The Department of Health (DOH) said that 879 of the fresh infections happened in the past 14 days and Metro Manila is the region with the most cases.
The health agency likewise recorded an additional 1,349 recoveries and 34 fatalities. These numbers bring the tallies to 3,664,905 and 56,538, respectively.
Of the number deaths, 11 occurred in February, three in January, and 17 in 2021, and three in 2020.
Of the 50,458 active infections, 45,510 are mild cases, 2,773 are moderate cases, 1,415 are severe cases, 463 are asymptomatic, and 297 are critical cases.
The positivity rate slightly slipped to 4.5 percent, below the World Health Organization’s threshold of five percent which indicates controlled spread.
The DOH said that five laboratories were unable to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
Further, the department noted that four duplicates were removed from the total case count while 26 cases were reclassified after validation.
