MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the implementation of the Pantawid Pasada and fuel discount programs for farmers and fisherfolk amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
“On the supply of oil, the President approved the recommendations of the Department of Energy (DOE) to implement the P2.5-billion Pantawid Pasada, and P500-million fuel discount program for farmers and fisherfolks,” acting presidential spokesperson and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said in a video message on Wednesday.
The Pantawid Pasada is a program wherein an operator of a public utility vehicle will get a fuel subsidy card to avail of fuel at participating petroleum retail outlets or gasoline stations.
The Palace has assured that the DOE will “continue to monitor the sufficiency in supply and quality and will make sure there will be no short selling.”
Aside from the move, the Palace also called on the Congress to review the Oil Deregulation Law amid soaring fuel prices.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the price of oil has reached $100 per barrel.
