TACLOBAN CITY––The number of COVID-19 patients in Eastern Visayas continues to decline.
The Department of Health (DOH) reported three new cases on Monday, the lowest after the region experienced a surge last year.
Eastern Visayas currently has 113 active COVID-19 cases.
Jelyn Lopez Malibago, DOH regional information officer, said two new cases were from Leyte province and one from Eastern Samar.
The 113 active cases are in Leyte with 79; Southern Leyte, 17; Samar, 8; Northern Samar, 4; Biliran, 3; and Eastern Samar, 2.
In Tacloban, the region’s capital city, its COVID-19 cases are also declining. It has 12 patients, said Dr. Gloria Fabrigas, its city health officer.
The decreasing number of COVID-19 cases in the city was attributed partly to its vaccination campaign.
Fabrigas said that as of Monday, the city fully vaccinated 175,162, representing 81.14 percent of the targeted population of more than 215,800, while 191,584 or 88.74 percent of the target have received their first vaccines.
Fabrigas hoped that with the intensified campaign of the city government, Tacloban would have zero COVID-19 cases.
In Eastern Samar, Gov. Ben Evardone has rescinded the requirement on the S-pass for those who want to enter the province.
Based on his order, only a vaccination card will be required.
S-pass is a travel management system developed by the government as a requirement in gaining entry to a particular place or office.
