ILOILO CITY—On the 36th anniversary of the Edsa People Power revolt on Friday, Ilonggos gave Vice President Leni Robredo the biggest show of support during the campaign period and one of the biggest political rallies ever held here.

A crowd of at least 30,000 cheering, fist-pumping and dancing supporters joined the grand rally of Robredo, her running mate Sen. Francis Pangilinan and their senatorial slate at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Lapaz District here.

From being a “people’s campaign,” Robredo said her march to Malacañang has turned into a “crusade” for an honest and competent government.

“We will bring this crusade all over the country. And we will bring to the government the principles that I hold dear since I was still a lawyer for those on the fringes of society,” she added.

Robredo ended her 20-minute speech challenging Ilonggos: “Dag-on ta na ni! (Let us win this!)” The mainly youthful crowd repeatedly shouted “Leni, Leni!”

The rally was transformed into a mammoth open-field party capped with a fireworks display as former Eraserheads frontman Ely Buendia performed to a cheering and dancing crowd.

Robredo, along with daughters Aika, Tricia and Jillian, was also seen dancing on stage.
